PENNSAUKEN, N.J. (EMUEagles.com
) – Another year, another opportunity for the Eastern Michigan University rowing team to hoist the Colonial Athletic Association trophy. The Eagles will head east for the conference tournament, which will be held on the Cooper River in Pennsauken, N.J. Sunday, May 15. The Third Varsity Eight boats will kick-off the regatta at 11 a.m.

"I want to see every boat execute all that we have practiced in the last month and have their top race in the final," said Head Coach Kemp Savage.

Last year, the Eagles tallied 17 points for sixth place at the championships, which also took place on the Cooper River. Meanwhile, Northeastern University won its seventh consecutive CAA title in 2021 (excluding the absence of the championships in 2020 due to COVID-19).

Eastern's Second Varsity Eight crew had the highest placement amongst all EMU boats at the 2021 championships, finishing fourth out of seven teams with a time of 7:00.122. Individually, the Green and White saw sophomore Emma Boersen (West Olive, Mich.-Grand Haven) earn a spot on the All-CAA team for the first time in her career.

Eastern Michigan has recorded two third-place finishes as a member of the CAA (2016, 2019), and hope to be a major player at this year's regatta as the Eagles' boats have made noticeable improvements this year.

EMU's 1V8 crew clocked in at 6:40.24 against Bucknell University, April 16, compared to its 6:53.003 time at the 2021 CAAs. In the same regatta versus the Bison, Eastern's 2V8+ finished the 2,000-meter course in 6:57.94, while last year they registered a time of 7:00.122 on the Cooper River.
