Miranda Cadwell recorded a career-high hammer throw of 56.58m
LOUISVILLE, Ky. & ASHLAND, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University track & field team gained experience in its Friday meets at the Clark Wood Invitational and Ashland Alumni Open today, April 29.
How It Happened
At the University of Louisville, sophomore sprinter Kaleb Simpson (Bexley, Ohio-St. Charles Preparatory) captured the 200m dash title with a season-best time of 21.12. Meanwhile, senior Derek Jones (Erie, Pa.-Cathedral Preparatory) and sophomore Ronald Brandal (Huron, Ohio-Huron) ran season-best 800m times of 1:51.65 (3rd) and 1:53.24 (7th), respectively.
In the 400m hurdles, junior Chevonne Wheeler (Redford, Mich.-Divine Child) produced a personal-best time of 1:02.38 for fifth. Classmate Dante Lander (Dayton, Ohio-Carrollton (Central Michigan)) also continues to improve, crossing the finish line in 52.49 for fourth.
Senior Solomon Costa (Gahanna, Ohio-Gahanna Lincoln) was EMU's fastest finisher in the 5000m with a career-best time of 14:30.63. Sophomore Esme Davies (Lake District, England-Queen Elizabeth School of Grammar) placed second in the event with a time of 17:42.27. In the field, senior Baboucar Sallah-Mohammed (Windhoek, Namibia-Fishburne Military (Va.) (Bethany College)) produced a 7.36-meter leap for fourth.
In Ohio, junior Newlyn Stephenson (Gary, Ind.-Thea Bowman Leadership Academy) recorded a mark of 63.14m in the hammer throw for fourth. Additionally, sophomore Miranda Cadwell (Plainfield, Ill.-Plainfield South) continues to PR in the same event, registering a career-high heave of 56.58m. Cadwell's mark ranks third in the Mid-American Conference and is the sixth in the hammer throw in program history.
