EMU Track & Field Soars in Saturday Afternoon Meets

LOUISVILLE, Ky. & ASHLAND, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University track & field team won six event titles and set one meet record at the Clark Wood Invitational today, April 30. Meanwhile, the EMU throwers produced two personal-best marks at the Ashland Alumni Open on the same day.

"This was a strong weekend for us," said Director/Head Coach Sue Parks. "We showed improvement in all areas. We are right where we need to be heading into this last stretch of the season."

"The group's built off of last weekend's momentum and carried it into our last big meet before MACs," said Associate Head Coach Chris Best. "Back-to-back weekends are always challenging especially with exams in the picture. Everyone had great attitudes and the performances reflected that."

How It Happened
After a season-best 200m dash time yesterday (21.12), sophomore Kaleb Simpson (Bexley, Ohio-St. Charles Preparatory) notched a career-high 100m dash time of 10.38 in the preliminaries, the fastest time in the Mid-American Conference. In the 4x400m relay, junior Richie Sadler (Greenville, S.C.-Greer (Coastal Carolina)), sophomore Kyle Martin (Ann Arbor, Mich.-Ann Arbor Huron), senior Derek Jones (Erie, Pa.-Cathedral Preparatory), and junior Dante Lander (Dayton, Ohio-West Carrollton (Central Michigan)) clocked in at 3:13.20 for first, the fastest 4x400 time for EMU since 2019.

Junior Baldvin Magnusson (Akureyri, Iceland-Hull University) won the 1500m race with a time of 3:42.86, setting a new meet record. Additionally, the time currently ranks second in the MAC. Elsewhere on the track, sophomore Almighty Williamson (Baltimore, Md.-Digital Harbor (Barton C.C.)) earned a victory in the 110H competition with a time of 13.92.

Junior Mair Edwards (Basingstoke, England-The Costello School) picked up a win in the 400m dash with a season-best time of 54.59. Meanwhile, sophomore Kilani Harvey (Orlando, Fla.-Jones (Morehead State)) registered a massive PR of 11.61 in the 100m dash, the third-fastest time in the league so far this season. Junior Angel Gazaway (Cincinnati, Ohio-Princeton) finished runner-up in the 100H, crossing the finish line in a season-best clip of 13.82.

Freshman Marta Moreno (Wassenaar, Netherlands-American School of The Hague) captured her first ever event victory with a personal-best time of 11:08.44 in the steeplechase.

In the field, senior Baboucar Sallah-Mohammed (Windhoek, Namibia-Fishburne Military (Va.) (Bethany College)) and Sadler both recorded career-high marks in the triple jump of 15.89m and 15.73m, respectively.

At Ashland University, senior Chukwusom Enekwechi (Valley Stream, N.Y.-Jamaica Gateway to the Sciences (Monroe College)) registered a shot put mark of 18.17m for third, the furthest mark in the MAC and a new career-high. Also in the shot put, sophomore Miranda Cadwell (Plainfield, Ill.-Plainfield South) tied her career-best mark of 13.64m.
