Eastern continues the series with a Saturday doubleheader starting at 12 p.m.

TOLEDO, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) --The Eastern Michigan University baseball team dropped a series-opening Friday matinee to the University of Toledo, April 22, 5-1, at Scott Park.

Senior Thomas House (Ross, Ohio-Ross) (1-5) started and took the loss on the mound for Eastern Michigan (15-21, 10-11 MAC). Junior Zach Gillig (Valley Center, Kan.-Valley Center (Pratt)) was a bright spot out of the bullpen, going one shutout inning while allowing one hit, walking none, and striking out one.

In the batter's box, the Eagles were led by junior Matt Kirk (Milford, Ohio-Milford (Toledo)), who went 1-for-5 on the day with a double and an RBI against his former team. Sophomore Glenn Miller (Pentwater, Mich.-Pentwater (Spring Arbor)) furnished a noteworthy performance at the dish as well, going 2-for-3 with a walk. Freshman Aaron Dolney (Plymouth, Mich.-Detroit Country Day (Nebraska)) also chipped in for Eastern Michigan, putting together two hits in three trips to the plate while adding a walk.

How It Happened
The Eagles put a run on the scoreboard first, starting the scoring in the fifth inning. Eastern Michigan got on the board thanks to Kirk's RBI double with two outs. The Eagles were unable to hold the lead, as Toledo scored five times over the remaining four innings to grab the 5-1 win.

Game Notes
» Eastern Michigan left 12 runners stranded on base in the loss. It is the 13th time this season the Eagles have left 10-or-more runners stranded. EMU is 5-8 in those contests.
» Eastern Michigan pitchers faced 38 Toledo hitters in the game, allowing 10 ground balls and seven fly balls while striking out four.
» Kirk led the Eagles offensively with an RBI double. The RBI extends Kirk's hitting streak to seven games, dating back to April 15.
» Kirk has now tabbed an RBI in three consecutive games for the Green and White. It is the fourth stretch this season where Kirk has tallied an RBI in at least three straight contests.
» Miller finished 2-for-3 with a walk and a run scored. It is the third time this season the infielder has totaled multiple hits in a contest this season.
» Dolney also recorded a pair of base knocks on Friday. The catcher extends his hitting streak to five games, recording multiple hits in four of those five contests (9-for-14 (.643)).
» Senior Brady Huebbe (Peru, Ill.-La Salle-Peru (Northern Illinois)) notched a hit on Friday. With the single, the outfielder rides a nine-game hitting streak, a streak that currently leads the team.
