TOLEDO, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) -- The Eastern Michigan University baseball team dropped a pair of games to the University of Toledo Rockets today, April 23, at UT's Scott Park.

Eastern (15-23, 10-13 MAC) dropped the first game, 5-2, before falling to Toledo (21-17, 15-11 MAC) again in game two, 21-7.

Sophomore Nick Chittum (Grose Ile, Mich.-Grose Ile) was a bright spot for the Eagles in game one, coming out of the bullpen and throwing three innings, surrendering two runs with no walks and racking up three strikeouts.

At the plate, the Eagles were paced by senior Taylor Hopkins (Mason, Ohio-Archbishop Moeller), who went 1-for-3 on the day with a home run and an RBI. Freshman Aaron Dolney (Plymouth, Mich.-Detroit Country Day (Nebraska)) compiled a noteworthy performance as well, going 1-for-2 with a double.

How It Happened - Game 1
Trailing 5-0, the Eagles first put runs on the board in the seventh inning. Eastern Michigan put up two runs in the inning, the highlight of which was a Hopkins home run. Despite the rally attempt, Eastern was unable to close the gap and finished with a 5-2 setback.

Game Notes - Game 1
» Hopkins belted his third home run of the season with his shot in the seventh inning. The 15th long ball of his career, it was the first for Hopkins since he took the Cardinals of Ball State deep in a game in Muncie, Ind., March 13.
» Dolney's double marked his eighth of the season, including his third in his last four games played. He is tied for third on the team in two-baggers this season, and is the only freshman to be top-five in that category.
» With his double in game one, Dolney extended his hit streak to six games. That ties his personal best, which he previously accomplished between March 20-26.
» Chittum was locked into the strike zone in his three innings of work. The Grose, Ile product refused to allow a free pass, the third time this season he has pitched without issuing a walk. Additionally, Chittum punched out three Rockets. He has stuck out three-or-more opposing hitters in four appearances this season, including two in-a-row.

How It Happened - Game 2
EMU scored runs in four of the game's seven frames, but it was not enough to match up with the hot bats of Toledo. The Eagles' did turn the tables late, outscoring Toledo 6-0 over the final three innings. Eastern's best frame was the sixth, when it put a game-high three runs across the plate.

Game Notes - Game 2
» Senior Christian Bault (Maineville, Ohio-Archbishop Moeller (Lincoln Trails)) came on to pinch hit in the fifth inning, and made the most of the opportunity. He lifted the first pitch he saw over the left field fence to notch his fourth home run of the season and his first since March 5, at Morehead State.
» Freshman Logan Hugo (Essexville, Mich.-Essexville Garber) blasted his second home run of the season during the game. The blast gave him his 17th RBI of the season, which is the seventh-best mark on the team.
» As a team, Eastern has now hit 51 home runs on the season. That number equates to a 1.3 home runs per game average, the program's best since 2009.
» Senior Thomas House (Ross, Ohio-Ross) went 2.0 innings on the bump. The junior lefty was outstanding, allowing just two hits while keeping the Rockets off the board. It was House's first appearance without relinquishing a run since April 9, when he held Miami off the board in his 0.1 innings of work. Furthermore, it is House's first outing of 2.0-or-more innings without giving up a run since March 19, at Butler. He blanked the Bulldogs over 2.1 frames of work in that game.

Up Next
The Eagles and Rockets will close their four-game series tomorrow, April 24, with a single game. The Sunday matinee is slated to begin at 1 p.m.
