Kadian Clarke sets school record with 15.63m shot put mark
EAST LANSING, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University track & field program wrapped up its time at the Spartan Invitational today, April 2, at the Ralph Young Track & Field Facility.
"We had a small group competing this weekend but they made the most of their opportunity," said Director/Head Coach Sue Parks. "Kadian Clarke continues to perform at a very high level in multiple events. To break a school record in less than ideal conditions is very impressive. We're excited to see what she can do the rest of the season."
How It Happened
For the second consecutive meet, senior Kadian Clarke (Kingston, Jamaica-Immaculate Conception) set a school record in the shot put. Today, Clarke topped her previous best of 15.51m with a 15.63m heave to take first in the competition. The veteran thrower also made a splash in the discus, placing third with a personal-best mark of 45.05m. For the Kingston, Jamaica native, she now ranks second all-time in the event behind sophomore teammate Miranda Cadwell's (Plainfield, Ill.-Plainfield South) 45.66m effort set last year.
Elsewhere in the field, senior Chukwusom Enekwechi (Valley Stream, N.Y.-Jamaica Gateway to the Sciences (Monroe College)) had a busy day, finishing fourth in the shot put (16.59m) and seventh in the discus (44.05m), respectively.
On the track, junior captain Eddie Zuercher (Rocky River, Ohio-Rocky River) competed in his first 800m race, crossing the finish line in 1:57.11 for seventh.
