JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (EMUEagles.com) – Eastern Michigan University sophomore Anna Watson (Ashland, Ohio-Ashland) fired a 75 in the final round of the Don Benbow Invitational Tuesday, March 8, to claim runner-up honors with a four-over 146 (71-75). A day after she tied her career best with a round of 71, the Ashland, Ohio product finished with a personal-best two round tally and the sixth-lowest 36-hole mark in program history.
Eastern Michigan was unable to hold on to the team lead on the final day, as Butler surged to the top of the standings with a final round 298. The Bulldogs won the event with a 609 (311-208) on the par 71, 6,021-yard Jacksonville Beach Golf Club course, as IUPUI (610), EMU (612), Troy (616), and Western Michigan (624) rounded out the top-five places.
The Green and White's cumulative score of 612 is the 15th-best two round score in school-history.
How It Happened
Five Eagles finished inside the top-25, led by Watson's 146. Freshman Kyleigh Dull (Fremont, Ohio-Lakota) and sophomore Paige Zolciak (Perrysburg, Ohio-St. Ursula Academy) tied for 11th with a 154, while junior Olivia Loberg (Bend, Ore.-Summit) and sophomore Sophia Wygonik (Westland, Mich.-Livonia Franklin) were tied for 23rd with a 157.
Freshman Alyssa DiMarcantonio (Maple, Ontario-Tommy Douglas Secondary School) added a 159 (80-79) for a tie in 32nd place. Junior Natai Apichonlati (Bangkok, Thailand-The Regent's International School) finished the final day with an 80 for a 160 in a tie for 37th and sophomore Tatyana Nyambane (Nairobi, Kenya-Nord Anglia International School Dubai) added a 169 for 64th place.
