Eastern Leads Benbow Invite After Day One of Play

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University women's golf team posted an opening round 309 at the Don Benbow Invitational Monday, March 7, to lead the 13-team field heading into Tuesday's final round. EMU holds a two stroke advantage over three teams that are tied for second (IUPUI, Butler, and Indiana State) on the par 71, 6,021-yard Jacksonville Beach Golf Club course.
Battling windy conditions, Butler's Ally Ross leads the field at one-under 70, while EMU sophomore Anna Watson (Ashland, Ohio-Ashland) is second at even par.
How It Happened
Watson tied her career best with the round of 71, previously posting the same score in the finale of the Pat Bradley, Oct. 18, 2021. The Ashland, Ohio native tallied three birdies during the round, including a two-under tally on the front nine.
Freshman Kyleigh Dull (Fremont, Ohio-Lakota) and sophomore Sophia Wygonik (Westland, Mich.-Livonia Franklin) are tied for 14th with a 79, while freshman Alyssa DiMarcantonio (Maple, Ontario-Tommy Douglas Secondary School) added an 80 for a tie in 22nd place.
Junior Olivia Loberg (Bend, Ore.-Summit) posted a 82 to round our the team scoring. Individually, sophomore Paige Zolciak (Perrysburg, Ohio-St. Ursula Academy) resides in a tie for seventh after a 75. Junior Natai Apichonlati (Bangkok, Thailand-The Regent's International School) is tied for 22nd with an 80, while sophomore Tatyana Nyambane (Nairobi, Kenya-Nord Anglia International School Dubai) finished her day with an 86.

Tuesday's second round is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. The Eagles will be paired with IUPUI, Butler, and Indiana State.
