BLUFFTON, S.C. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University men's golf team returns to the tee box Monday-Tuesday, March 7-8, at the 10th Annual Colleton River Collegiate hosted by Michigan State University. The invitational will be held on the par-72, 7,180-yard Colleton River Club with the Eagles playing 36 holes of continuous play Monday beginning at 8:15 a.m.
The 15-team field includes: Bowling Green, Cincinnati, Eastern Michigan, Georgia Southern, Indiana, Iowa State, Kansas State, Memphis, Miami, Michigan State, Minnesota, Ohio State, Penn State, Rutgers, and South Florida.
Regarded by golf legends as one of the finest 18 holes in the game, the Nicklaus course at Colleton River celebrates its 30th anniversary in 2022. The course strikes an exceptional balance between challenge and playability. Nicklaus tempts you throughout, providing glimpses of the marsh on the front nine before finishing the round in dramatic fashion exposed to the winds and scenic vistas provided by the Colleton River. Measuring over 7100 yards, the course was named "Best new private course in America" in 1993 by Golf Digest. In the fall of 2017, the Nicklaus course underwent a remarkable restoration unearthing its original classic lowcountry beauty.
Colleton River is a 1,500-acre private peninsula set amidst Lowcountry tidal marshes and moss-draped Live Oaks. This picturesque coastal community offers two Signature world-class golf courses from Jack Nicklaus and Pete Dye.
Due to COVID, last year's event was moved 118 miles south to the Sea Island Resort's Plantation Course.
In 2020, Eastern Michigan finished the event with a 887 (297-299-291), in eighth-place. Senior Cougar Collins (Caledon, Ontario, Canada-Mayfield Secondary) led the Eagles, shooting a 214 (68-76-70) to finish the tournament two-under and place ninth. Georgia Southern (-15) won the tournament by seven strokes over Iowa State (-8).
