YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) -- The Eastern Michigan University gymnastics team looks to go back-to-back as Mid-American Conference Champions Saturday, March 19. The conference championship meet will be hosted by the Green and White inside the George Gervin GameAbove Center, beginning at 2 p.m.
Eastern (5-12-1, 1-5 MAC) closed out its regular season with a season-high of 195.375 against Northern Illinois, March 13. However, the season-best team score was not enough to top the Huskies' 196.350.

FOLLOWING THE MEET: Fans can follow the meet through live results or through a live stream on ESPN3, where Joel Godett and Kim Dowis-Brown will have the call. The links can be found on the EMU gymnastics schedule page located on EMUEagles.com. Also, follow along on Twitter (@EMUGym).

ALL-AROUND PARRIS: Junior Molly Parris continues to improve, posting her best all-around score of the season, March 13, against Northern Illinois, 39.125. Parris only began competing in all-around this season, and did so in four meets. Additionally, she improved her score in each of those four meets as the season progressed.
The junior also scored a career-high 9.850 on floor in the meet against NIU, tying for fourth place.

AMAZING GRACE: Continuing to shine right to the end of her sophomore season, Anna Grace McCullough saved her best performance yet for the regular-season finale. The Birmingham, Ala. native earned her first career 9.900 against NIU, March 13, tying for first place. McCullough is the only active member of the EMU roster to score a 9.900 on bars and joins last-year's graduate, Cortney Bezold in the record book, tying for ninth all-time.

LUCKY 13TH: Senior Shannon Gregory earned a personal-best 9.900 on floor against Northern Illinois, March 13. Coincident or not, the first 9.900 of Gregory's career came exactly one year ago, March 13, 2021, at Central Michigan. The then-junior scored 9.900 on beam for a career-high on the event, inside McGuirk Arena.

REIGNING, DEFENDING: Eastern Michigan enters the conference meet, March 19, looking to repeat as Mid-American Conference Champions. Last season, the team secured the title with an overall score of 195.900.
The Eagles started the meet slow, scoring 48.625 on beam. Moving forward, EMU did not score below a 49.000 the rest of the way. Molly Parris scored 9.850 on vault, earning  a share of the MAC vault title, while Hadyn Crossen came in second place in the all-around competition with a score of 39.225. Both Parris and Crossen were named to the all-tournament team for their performances.

CROWNING A BEAM QUEEN: Freshman Ella Chemotti is the beam queen of the Mid-American Conference this season. Chemotti ended the regular season ranked first in the league on beam with an NQS of 9.875. The freshman has scored 9.900-or-higher three times this season, including her personal-best 9.950 in the EMU Quad, Jan. 28.

NQS: Qualification for national competition is based on a team's and an all-around competitor's six best regular-season meet scores, of which three must be away. To obtain the national qualifying score (NQS), the high score is eliminated and the remaining five scores are averaged. In former years, this was known as the Regional Qualifying Score (RQS), which was changed for the 2019 season to reflect the new post-season format.

MAC TOP-10: Sophomore Raisa Boris has an NQS of 9.830 on bars, which is fifth in the Mid-American Conference in the event. Freshman Ella Chemotti leads the conference on beam with an NQS of 9.875. The freshman's 9.950 during the EMU Quad, Jan. 28, is the highest score in the league on the event this season and has only been done by one other gymnast, Amanda Gruber of Western Michigan.

ON THE HORIZON: Eastern will wait to hear the announcement for individual qualifiers going to NCAA Regionals. The regional meet will take place Saturday, April 2. The location and time of the meet will be announced at a later date.
