Men’s Golf Returns to the Valley of the Sun for the GCU Invite

PHOENIX, Ariz. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University men's golf team returns to Phoenix for another shot at the Grand Canyon University Invitational on the par 71, 7,148 yard GCU Golf Course.
The Eagles will compete in a field of 23 programs that includes: Abilene Christian, Ball State, Cal Baptist, Cal State Fullerton, Columbia, Creighton, Drake, Fresno State, Grand Canyon, Hawai'i, Incarnate Word, Kansas City, North Dakota State Northern Colorado, Omaha, Pacific Sacramento State, Southern Mississippi, TCU, Texas-Arlington, and Valparaiso.
Teams will play 36 holes on Monday with 18 more on Tuesday with shotgun starts each day at 7:45 a.m. MST.
Last year, Zack Mason (Toronto, Ontario, Canada-Blyth Academy Lawrence Park) collected his third career top-10 showing, as he finished in third-place at the event. The Toronto, Ontario native posted rounds of 71, 70, and 70 for his best-ever finish with a 54-hole total of 211.
Despite being just one shot off the lead after the opening round, Eastern was unable to keep pace with a late charge by Wichita State and Southern Mississippi. WSU claimed the top-spot with a 862 (280-292-290), while USM improved six positions to take second with a 864 (291-286-287). EMU finished fourth with a 867 (281-288-298), one shot shy of host Grand Canyon (280-288-298=866).
