LAKEWOOD RANCH, Fla. (EMUEagles.com) --
The Eastern Michigan University women's golf team returns to action for its spring slate of matches Monday, Feb. 7, when it travels to Lakewood Ranch, Fla. to tee off in the Mid-American Match Play Challenge. The tournament is hosted by Bowling Green State University and takes place at Lakewood Ranch Golf & Country Club. EMU last participated in the event when it opened its 2020 spring slate in the Sunshine State.

The two-day event will consist of 54 holes of match play competition. Teams are seeded one through 12 based upon the Golfstat rankings and then placed into a bracket. All teams are guaranteed three matches with losing teams from the first and second rounds continuing to compete in a consolation bracket. Each team match will consist of five individual matches.

The first round will begin Monday at 7:50 a.m. followed by the second round at approximately 12 p.m. The third and fourth-round matches will be played Tuesday, Feb. 8, with a 7:50 a.m. start.

There will be a total of nine Mid-American Conference teams participating in the tournament, including Akron, Ball State, BGSU, Central Michigan, EMU, Northern Illinois, Ohio, Toledo, and Western Michigan. Also joining the action is Illinois State, Morehead State, and Western Illinois.

In the first round, the fifth-seeded Eagles will face off against the No. 12-ranked Cardinals of Ball State. The winner of that match will square off against No. 4 Akron in the afternoon matches. If EMU were to fall, it would face the loser of the Morehead State-Ohio match; the two teams are slotted sixth and 11th, respectively.

Eastern finished seventh at the 2020 edition of the tournament. After dropping its first two matches of the weekend, against Western Michigan and Illinois State, the Eagles rallied to close the tournament with a 3-2 win over Northern Illinois. In that round, Maria Connelly (Waterville, Ohio-Anthony Wayne), Natai Apichonlati (Bangkok, Thailand-The Regent's International School), and former Eagle Julia Stevenson all earned individual wins over the Huskies.
