Bault homers in second-straight game; Dolney notches first career hits
COOKEVILLE, Tenn. (EMUEagles.com) -- The Eastern Michigan University baseball team fell to Tennessee Tech University, 11-2, in the final game of the three-game weekend set between the two squads today, Feb. 27, at Bush Stadium.
Freshman Adam Falinski (Howell, Mich.-Detroit Catholic Central) (1-1) started and took the loss on the mound for Eastern Michigan (1-5). Junior Mason Marquis (Stanford, Ill.-Olympia (Heartland C.C.)) was a bright spot out of the bullpen, going one shutout inning without allowing a hit, walking none, and striking out one.
Senior Christian Bault (Maineville, Ohio-Archbishop Moeller (Lincoln Trails)) led the way offensively for the Eagles, going 1-for-4 in the ballgame with a home run and two RBIs. Freshman Aaron Dolney (Plymouth, Mich.-Detroit Country Day) paced the Eagles with two hits in the contest.
How it Happened
The Eagles were trailing 3-0 in the fourth inning when they first put runs on the board. Eastern Michigan plated two runs when Bault left the yard with senior Shane Easter (Kalamazoo, Mich.-Comstock)) aboard. The Eagles were unable to get any closer, as Tennessee Tech added eight runs to their tally on the way to an 11-2 final.
Game Notes
» Eastern Michigan's highest scoring inning was the fourth, when it pushed two runs across.
» Eastern pitchers faced 43 Tennessee Tech hitters in the game, allowing 10 ground balls and three fly balls while striking out nine.
» EMU has hit home runs in five consecutive games, its longest streak since the Eagles hit deep shots in six straight games between March 13-21, 2021. EMU players hit nine home runs during the 2021 streak, while this year's five-game stretch has seen the Green and White belt seven home runs.
» With Bault's home run on Sunday, the Eagles have now hit seven homers in the young season. Comparatively, the Green and White tallied just four round-trippers in the first six games of the 2021 season.
» Eastern Michigan also notched five home runs in the series against the Golden Eagles. It is the first time the team has tabbed five-or-more home runs in a three-game series since the Eagles launched six deep balls versus Ohio University, April 14-16, 2017.
» Easter finished 1-for-2. With the base knock, Easter has earned a hit in each game this season, riding a six-game hitting streak.
» Bault hit a home run for EMU in today's contest, his second straight game with a homer. It marks the first time in his three-year career with the Eagles in which he has hit home runs in back-to-back contests.
» Dolney had a memorable day, as he stepped into the lineup and recorded his first collegiate hits. He led the Green and White's efforts, going 2-for-4 at the dish, the only multi-hit day of any Eastern player.
Historical Notes
» Tennessee Tech now leads the all-time series against EMU 5-3 after the three-game series.
