HILTON HEAD, S.C. (EMUEagles.com) – Eastern Michigan University senior Ty Celone (Long Sault, Ontario, Canada-St Joseph's Catholic) collected his eighth career top-10 showing Tuesday, Feb. 22, as he finished in sixth place at the Wexford Intercollegiate. The Long Sault, Ontario native posted rounds of 73, 70, and 72 for his best 54-hole tally of the 2021-22 season at one-under 215 on the 6,913-yard, par 72 Wexford Plantation course.
EMU finished in 12th place as a team with a three-round score of 903 (301-303-299). Host Francis Marion won the event by one stroke over Furman, posting a two-over 866 (289-294-283). Mercer's Tobias Jonsson claimed medalist honors with a four-under 212 (71-71-70).
How It Happened
After darkness suspended Monday's second round, the Eagles closed out the stanza with a team score of 303. The Eagles shaved four shots off that mark in the final round with a 299 to move up one spot in the team standings.
Celone paced EMU with a 215, while sophomore Max Watson (Ashland, Ohio-Ashland) added a 224 (71-79-74) in a tie for 45th. Sophomore MJ Smith (Rockford, Ill.-Winnebago) fired a 231 (75-79-77) for 66th. Seniors Zack Mason (Toronto, Ontario, Canada-Blyth Academy Lawrence Park) and Cougar Collins (Caledon, Ontario, Canada-Mayfield Secondary) rounded out the scoring with a 234 (83-75-76) and a 239 (82-79-78), respectively.
