GRANVILLE, Ohio (EMUEagles.com)
– The Eastern Michigan University swimming and diving program took home a total of 584 points on day one of the Denison Invitational, today, Dec. 1, and sits in second place. The team is in a good position, trailing only Denison University (first place) by 81 points heading into day two.

How it Happened
In the pool, Eastern earned a pair of second-place finishes. Freshman Alexandra Kudo (Guelph, Ontario-John F. Ross Collegiate Vocational Institute) placed runner-up in the 500-yard freestyle with a career-high time of 4:53.66 while senior Carlin Hudson (Chattanooga, Tenn.-Chattanooga School for the Arts & Sciences) took second in the 200 individual medley with a mark of 2:03.90.

Additionally, Hudson's time of 2:02.46 in the preliminary round of the 200 individual medley was a career-best and is the 10th-best time in program history in the event, surpassing her old mark of 2:03.93.

Junior Katie Shoen (Owego, N.Y.-Owego Free Academy) took third place in the 50-yard freestyle with a career-high time of 23.15. The mark not only ties a collegiate high but it is also tied for the 10th best time in EMU's program history in the event.

On the diving boards, sophomore Rebekah Knapp (Mesa, Ariz.-Skyline) earned her first collegiate victory, placing first in the 3-meter dive with a score of 280.20. The mark qualifies Knapp for the NCAA Zone Diving Championships, March 9-11, in the 3-meter as she will join teammate Camryn Hughes (London, Ontario-Sir Frederick Banting Secondary) who qualified for the Zone Championships in the 1-meter dive. EMU went on to sweep the top five spots in the 3-meter finals in Denison.

Up Next
The Eagles will compete tomorrow, Dec. 2, in the Denison Invitational with the first session beginning at 10 a.m. inside the Trumbull Aquatics Center.
