Gymnastics Inks Four to 2024 Roster

Incoming signees include three, Level 10 national qualifiers
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — Eastern Michigan University gymnastics Head Coach Katie Minasola announced the additions of four incoming signees to the 2024 roster today, Nov. 29.
Abby Brushwood (State College, Pa.-State College Area), Gwen Cantu (Joliet, Ill.-Providence Catholic), Genae Daniel (Indianapolis, Ind. - Pike) and Jackie Patterson (Mason, Ohio-Mason) will all compete for the Eagles next fall as first-year gymnasts. "We are excited to announce the signing of four talented young gymnasts to our program next season," Minasola said. "Abby, Gwen, Genae and Jackie will all be crucial members of our team and we can't wait for them to join us on campus in the fall."
Abby Brushwood State College, Pa. - State College Area
An 11-year gymnastics veteran, Brushwood joins EMU from State College, Pa. Under Head Coaches Jen Bortz, Tracy Longnecker and Bob Drass, Brushwood is a vital member of the Centre Elite Gymnastics club's Level 10 team. In 2021, Brushwood was an All-Around National Qualifier.
Gwen Cantu Joliet, Ill. - Providence Catholic
Cantu comes to campus next fall with 10 years of gymnastics experience under her belt. The Illinois native currently competes for Aspire Gymnastics Academy under Head Coach Nick Becker. As a member of the club in 2018, Cantu qualified for the Eastern Regional Championships. Cantu excelled in the years following as she competed at the National Championships in 2019, 2021 and 2022. The incoming signee was also a two-year captain with Aspire Gymnastics.
Genae Daniel Indianapolis, Ind. - Pike
Daniel will join the Eagles next fall from her hometown of Indianapolis, Ind. A Level 10, three star gymnast competing for Team JPAC, Daniel has garnered multiple accolades across all four events. In 2022, the Indiana native was a first place national qualifier in vault. The season prior, Daniel finished first in vault at the 2021 Region Five Championship.
Jackie Patterson Mason, Ohio - Mason
Patterson has garnered multiple accolades in her 12 years as a competitive gymnast. A member of Perfection Gymnastics School in West Chester Township, Ohio, Patterson has competed under Head Coaches Hailey Fairchild, Lexie Preissman and Enrique Trabanino. In 2019, Patterson competed at the Level Nine Regional Championships, placing fourth overall in the all around competition. The same year, the Ohio native came in third in vault and eighth in all around at the Level Nine Eastern National Championships. During the regular season in 2020, Patterson grabbed first place finishes in all around at all five Level Nine meets. As a Level 10 competitor in 2021, the incoming signee placed fourth in vault and floor at the Ohio State Championship. Later that season, Patterson earned a fourth place finish in vault and beam as well as eighth place in all around at the Level 10 Regional Championships.
