Gymnastics Travels to Illinois State for Friday Night Matchup

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) -- Eastern Michigan University gymnastics hits the road, heading to Normal, Ill. to challenge Illinois State, Jan. 21.
Eastern (1-1, 1-0 MAC) comes into the meet after defeating in-state conference rival, Central Michigan, 193.525-192.925, Jan. 14. Illinois State (1-3, 0-0 MIC) welcomes EMU after placing second at Michigan State with Bowling Green, Jan. 15. The Redbirds totaled a team score of 192.625 in the triangular.

ATOP THE MAC PACK: Eastern Michigan has seen early success from its bars and beam lineups. EMU averages 48.838 on beam, and 48.713 on bars, which rank second and third in the Mid-American Conference, respectively.
Individually, sophomore Anna Grace McCullough is seventh in the MAC on bars, averaging 9.813. Senior Caitlin Satler and junior Hadyn Crossen are tied for seventh on beam (9.800). Senior Shannon Gregory made her season debut, Jan. 14, and now sits tied for ninth on floor (9.800). Furthermore, Crossen is eighth in the league in all-around competition with a mean average of 38.600.
NO SOPHOMORE SLUMP HERE: Sophomore Anna Grace McCullough continues to impress in her second season at Eastern Michigan. McCullough has collected four scores of 9.750-or-better across the two meets this season. The sophomore is becoming a staple in the bars lineup where she posted a 9.850 week one at Iowa, Jan. 8.
The Birmingham, Ala. native currently averages 9.813 on bars, which ranks seventh in the Mid-American Conference.
PEAK PERFORMERS: Eastern saw a few Eagles have great performances against Central Michigan, Jan. 14. Senior Kara Roberts tied for first place on vault, scoring a 9.800, while junior Hadyn Crossen secured third with her 9.750. On bars, Crossen and sophomore Raisa Boris tied for second place, hitting 9.825's, a personal best for the junior. Additionally, freshman Ella Chemotti hit her first 9.8-or-better on beam, scoring 9.825 and claiming second on the apparatus. Closing out the night, the Green and White took second and third on floor, with junior Molly Parris scoring a personal-best 9.825, and senior Shannon Gregory hitting a 9.800.
LAST TIME AGAINST: Last season, Eastern met up with Illinois State at the GymQuarters Invitational, Feb. 12, 2021. In the invitational, the Eagles placed second behind conference foe Ball State, scoring 193.975. ISU finished sixth in the meet with a team total of 190.225. The Green and White were led in the competition by former Eagle Cortney Bezold and then-junior Caitlin Satler who both earned 9.875's on bars and beam, respectively.
TILTED TOWARDS THE EAGLES: In the last 10 matchups between the Eagles and Redbirds, the advantage goes to EMU, 7-3. Furthermore, Eastern is on a six-meet win-streak against Illinois State, having not lost to ISU since Feb. 2, 2013.
EAGLES ON ESPN3: For the fifth consecutive season, the Eagles will have their home meets broadcast on ESPN3. This season, fans will be able to watch their Eagles compete in the EMU Quad, Jan. 28, and versus Northern Illinois, March 13. Furthermore, the Mid-American Conference Championships, March 19, will also be on ESPN3, as Eastern Michigan hosts.
ON THE HORIZON: Eastern returns home for the EMU Quad, Jan. 28. The meet will see Ball State, Western Michigan, and Wisconsin-Oshkosh compete inside the George Gervin GameAbove Center on the Eagles' Senior Day. The meet will start at 6 p.m. and can be watched on ESPN3.
