Volleyball Falls to Western Michigan in Straight Sets

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) -- The Eastern Michigan volleyball team could not overcome a potent Broncos offense, falling to Mid-American Conference foe Western Michigan University in straight sets (15-25, 22-25, 18-25) tonight, Sept. 24, inside the Convocation Center.
With tonight's result, EMU's record now sits at 5-8 overall with a 0-2 conference mark. The Broncos improve to 9-4 with a 2-0 MAC record.
Redshirt sophomore Raeven Chase (Toronto, Ont.-Michael Power St. Joseph Catholic) finished with eight kills on the day to lead the Eagles attack. EMU got 17 digs from Kamryn Stilwell (Parma, Ohio-Padua Franciscan) along with five blocks from Chase to lead them defensively.

» Freshman Madeline Timmerman (Crystal Lake, Ill.-Central) had a match-high four aces in the loss.
» Chase had a team-high eight kills for Eastern Michigan.
» Eastern Michigan got a team-high 17 digs from Stilwell.
» Eastern Michigan attackers were helped by a team-high 24 assists from sophomore Jayden Otto (Crystal Lake, Ill.-Prairie Ridge).
» Sophomore Samantha Basham (Granville, Ohio-Newark Catholic) recorded a season-high four total blocks.
» Junior Mackenzie Garis (Crystal Lake, Ill.-Praire Ridge) had a season-best three aces and three points.
How It Happened
SET 1 | The Eagles found themselves in an early deficit, dropping a tough first set 25-15. Eastern Michigan trailed by as many as 12 points as Western Michigan never gave up the lead in a set that was notted up zero times before the Broncos took control.
SET 2 | Eastern Michigan then dropped the second set 25-22 to fall behind in the match two sets to none. Despite a strong serving performance, the Eagles fell in the set. Eastern Michigan recorded six aces in the set loss.
SET 3 | Eastern Michigan could not win set three and was swept by Western Michigan. The Eagles dropped a tough set 25-18. Eastern Michigan trailed by as many as seven points as Western Michigan grabbed the advantage for good at 16-15 in a set that was tied up eight times before the Broncos took over in the second half of the stanza.
