Magnusson Reels in MAC XC Runner of the Week Award

The Iceland native earns weekly conference honor for the first time
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) - For the third week in-a-row, at least one member of Eastern Michigan's cross country program earned the Mid-American Conference Cross Country Runner of the Week award the league announced, Sept. 22. Earning the honor this week was junior Baldvin Magnusson (Akureyri, Iceland-Hull University) for his efforts last Friday at the FSU XC Open in Tallahassee, Fla., Sept. 17.
Magnusson made his presence known in his season debut at the Florida State meet, pacing the Eagles with a seventh-place finish in the 8K race with a time of 24:03.7, Sept. 17. On the Seminoles' Apalachee Regional Park course, the harrier bested every participant from Furman, who is currently ranked 18th in the nation according to the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
Furthermore, the Iceland native's 24:03.7 time against nationally-ranked teams is a three-second improvement from his outing at the 2020 Mid-American Conference Cross Country Championships when he crossed the finish line in 24:06.7, Nov, 21.
The Eagles will now have two weeks to recover and train for the Joe Piane Invitational, Oct. 1. The University of Notre Dame will host the meet in South Bend, Ind. with the first race set to begin at 11 a.m. More information will be made available as the meet draws closer.
The Eastern Michigan University cross country program will host the Mid-American Conference Championships Saturday, Oct. 30, at Eagle Crest Golf Course in Ypsilanti, Mich.
