Brittni Mason Sprints Her Way to Silver at Paralympic Games

The former Eagle took second in the T47 100m dash
TOKYO, Japan (EMUEagles.com) — The Eastern Michigan University track & field program saw former Eagle Brittni Mason shine at the 2020 Summer Paralympic Games today, Aug. 31 in Tokyo, Japan. Representing Team USA, Mason sprinted her way to a silver medal in the T47 100m dash, crossing the finish line in a strong 11.97 clip.
The Richmond Heights, Ohio native cruised to a 12.07 clip in the preliminary heat, the fastest time of the day, automatically sending her to the finals in the event. In the finals, Mason displayed her poise and athleticism despite rain pounding the track. The EMU graduate student exploded out of the blocks, taking the lead and pacing the pack nearly the entire way. At the finish line, Mason and Vera Andrade Lisbeli Marina of Venezuela looked to be neck-and-neck, however after careful analysis, Marina had won gold with a time of 11.963 to Mason's 11.964.
"Brittni ran a tremendous race and was able to bring home her first Paralympic medal," said associate Head Coach Chris Best. "We are extremely proud of her making it this far. Now it is time to turn our attention to her next race."
The former Eastern standout is not done yet, as she is still set to compete in the 4x100m relay. The preliminary race is scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 2 at 11:10 p.m. ET with the final taking place Friday, Sept. 3 at 8:17 a.m. ET.
