USTFCCCA Announces Cross Country Preseason Regional Rankings

Men picked to finish eighth, women 15th in Great Lakes Region
NEW ORLEANS, La. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University men's and women's cross country teams have been tabbed to finish eighth and 15th, respectively in the United States Track and Field Cross Country Coaches (USTFCCCA) Regional Ranking, the organization announced Monday, Aug. 30.
The men were picked eighth overall in the Great Lakes Region, the highest-ranked Mid-American Conference institution on the list, ahead of Miami (ninth), Toledo (11th), and Ohio (15th). Notre Dame, Butler, and Wisconsin took the top-three spots in the region heading into fall competition. Additionally, MAC-rival Buffalo was chosen ninth in the Northeast Region. Last year, the Green and Yellow harriers were ranked as high as seventh during their 2020 campaign.
The women's team rounded out the top-15 in the Great Lakes Region while conference foes Miami (11th), Bowling Green State (13th), and Ohio (14th) were picked to finish just ahead of the Eagles. Meanwhile, the USTFCCCA tabbed Toledo (ninth) as the best MAC school in the region with Michigan State poised to pace the Great Lakes' teams. Northern Illinois was also ranked 15th, earning a spot in the Midwest Region. Furthermore, the Eagles did not crack the top-15 rankings last year as they look turn heads with their talented squad.
The EMU harriers open the 2021 season with a trip to Bowling Green, Ohio for Bowling Green State's Mel Brodt Open on Sept. 3. The men's team kicks off the 5K meet at 5:30 p.m. followed by the women's race at 6:05. p.m.
