WARREN, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) —
Eastern Michigan University redshirt freshman Max Watson (Ashland, Ohio-Ashland) captured the 115th Ohio Amateur Championship today, July 30, at Avalon Golf and Country Club.  Watson defeated Dhaivat Pandya  in a playoff to claim victory. Pandya and Watson finished the 72-hole tournament at three-under-par 285 (68-73-72-72).

Watson surged to a two-shot lead at 5-under with birdies on 16 and 17. However, Watson double-bogeyed 18 for a round of 72 to force the playoff.

Pandya, a rising senior at the University of Maryland, shot a final-round 68 to climb into contention after rounds of 70, 72, and 75. He made five birdies on the back nine Friday on his way to a 4-under 32. When Watson bogeyed No. 15 he fell into a tie with Pandya and Bill Williamson of Cincinnati.

The 72-hole tournament began with a field of 144 and was cut to 60 for round three, and then to the final 40 after 54 holes.

Previous winners of the Ohio Amateur include notable stars such as Ben Curtis (1999 & 2000), Arnold Palmer (1954 & 1955).
