Men’s Golf Earns GCAA President’s Special Recognition

The Eagles were honored as an outstanding academic squad nationally
NORMAN, Okla. (EMUEagles.com) — The Eastern Michigan University men's golf team earned President's Special Recognition by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA). The squad was recognized for having a 3.57 grade point average over the fall and winter semesters.
To be recognized by the GCAA, teams need to achieve a GPA of 3.0-or-better. With EMU's team GPA being above 3.5, they were among the 41 other Division I schools that received the President's Special Recognition.
The team garnered success on the course as well as in the classroom, posting a 2020-21 season average of 298.88. Overall, Eastern Michigan finished in the top-five at a trio of tournaments this season, including a fourth-place showing at the GCU Invitational, March 15-16.
Individually, senior Cougar Collins (Caledon, Ontario, Canada-Mayfield Secondary) led EMU with a 74.33 average. Collins, who is ranked 554th by Golfweek, had seven rounds of par-or-better this season to go along with top-15 finishes.
Overall, five student-athletes collected academic all-conference honors from the Mid-American Conference. Seniors Ty Celone (Long Sault, Ontario, Canada-St Joseph's Catholic), Collins, and Tyler Rayman (Otsego, Mich.-Otsego) collected the honor for the second time, while Zack Mason (Toronto, Ontario, Canada-Blyth Academy Lawrence Park) and Max Watson (Ashland, Ohio-Ashland) picked up their first academic distinction from the conference.
