The Eagles' saw success in the V8+ and V4+ races
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (EMUEagles.com) – After 368 days without competition due to the COVID-19 (Coronavirus) pandemic, the Eastern Michigan University rowing team began its 2021 spring season racing against the No. 16-ranked University of Alabama today, March 6. The races took place along the Black Warrior River in Tuscaloosa, Ala.
"It was great to be back racing for the first time in a year," said Head Coach Kemp Savage. " We didn't execute as well as we have been in practices, but we will get back to work tomorrow to get better."
The 1V8+ boat recorded the fastest time of the day on the 2000-meter course at 8:09.3, a difference of 36.71 seconds to the winner, Alabama (7:32.7).
Additionally, the 2V8+ squad finished with a time of 8:57.9, a difference of 1:25.05 to the top-finisher Crimson Tide.
In the 1V4+ race, EMU clocked in at 10:05.02, a 1:25.14 difference from the top boat.
Eastern Michigan will resume racing Saturday, March 20, at Bucknell University. The races are set to begin at 3 p.m. in Shamokin Dam, Pa. along the Susquehanna River. More event details will be available on EMUEagles.com closer to the race date.
