GULF SHORES, Ala. (EMUEagles.com) – Behind the solid play of senior Cougar Collins (Caledon, Ontario, Canada-Mayfield Secondary), the Eastern Michigan University men's golf team finished in seventh place at the Craft Farms Intercollegiate with a 54-hole mark of 886 (291-298-297) Tuesday, March 30, on the par-72 Cotton Creek Golf Course at Craft Farms Golf Resort.
Collins finished tied for seventh with an even-par 216 (69-74-73) for his first top-10 showing of the season and third in his career. The Caledon, Ontario native notched six birdies during the final round, including posting a two-under 34 on the back nine. Additionally, the three-day tally tied a season-low for Collins he previously set at the GCU Invitational, March 15-16.
Overnight leader Cincinnati (865) held onto the lead, ending six shots clear of second-place South Alabama (871), the tournament's co-host with EMU.
Senior Tyler Rayman (Otsego, Mich.-Otsego) posted a season-best 221 (71-75-75) to tie for 22nd, while Ty Celone (Long Sault, Ontario, Canada-St Joseph's Catholic) added a 223 (72-77-74) for a tie for 34th. Rounding out the lineup, redshirt junior Zack Mason (Toronto, Ontario, Canada-Blyth Academy Lawrence Park) and freshman Max Watson (Ashland, Ohio-Ashland) added a 227 (80-72-75) and a 234 (79-80-75), respectively.
Freshman MJ Smith (Rockford, Ill.-Winnebago) closed the tournament with a 73 for a three-day cumulative of 225 (78-74-73) while competing as an individual participant.
Eastern Michigan wastes no time getting back into action at the Hoosier Invitational, April 3-4.
