GULF SHORES, Ala. (EMUEagles.com) – Eastern Michigan University senior Cougar Collins (Caledon, Ontario, Canada-Mayfield Secondary) fired a three-under 69 and sits just two shots off the pace at the inaugural Craft Farms Intercollegiate, March 28. Collins shot a 35 on the front side before adding a 34 on the back nine. Illinois State's David Perkins holds the opening day lead with a 67 on the par 72, 7,127-yard Cotton Creek Golf Course at Craft Farms Golf Resort.
As a team, the Eagles carded a day one score of 291 to sit in a tie with Cincinnati and Lipscomb, while Louisiana holds down the top spot with an 18-hole tally of 286.
Senior Tyler Rayman (Otsego, Mich.-Otsego) racked up three birdies to finish the day in a tie for eighth-place at 71. Senior Ty Celone (Long Sault, Ontario, Canada-St Joseph's Catholic) is just one shot back in a tie for 12th with a 72, while freshman Max Watson (Ashland, Ohio-Ashland) added a 79 for 63rd. Rounding out the lineup, redshirt junior Zack Mason (Toronto, Ontario, Canada-Blyth Academy Lawrence Park) posted an 80 to reside in 70th.
Freshman MJ Smith (Rockford, Ill.-Winnebago) posted a 78 as an individual participant.
Eastern Michigan returns to the course Monday, March 29 at 7:50 a.m. CT.
