GULF SHORES, Ala. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University men's golf team treks south to close out the month of March, as the team co-hosts the Craft Farms Intercollegiate, March 28-30. In collaboration with South Alabama, the 13-team tournament will be played at the par 72, 7,127-yard Cotton Creek Golf Course at Craft Farms Golf Resort in Gulf Shores, Ala.
The three-day tournament will feature 18 holes each day, with rounds on Sunday and Monday beginning at 7:50 a.m. CT off both holes No. 1 and No. 10. Tuesday's final round will be a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. CT.
Joining EMU and USA at the event will be Ball State, Cincinnati, Eastern Kentucky, Illinois State, Lamar, Lipscomb, Louisiana, Seton Hall, Southern Illinois, Texas State, and Western Kentucky. The Ragin' Cajuns are the top-ranked club in the field, coming in at No. 97 in the most recent GolfStat rankings, meanwhile the Eagles are currently No. 156.
This is the inaugural edition of the event after it was canceled last year due to the pandemic.
Playing for EMU will be senior Ty Celone (Long Sault, Ontario, Canada-St Joseph's Catholic), senior Cougar Collins (Caledon, Ontario, Canada-Mayfield Secondary), redshirt junior Zack Mason (Toronto, Ontario, Canada-Blyth Academy Lawrence Park), freshman Max Watson (Ashland, Ohio-Ashland), and senior Tyler Rayman (Otsego, Mich.-Otsego). Freshman MJ Smith (Rockford, Ill.-Winnebago) will be taking part in the tournament as an individual participant.
Featuring rolling fairways and large undulating greens, Cotton Creek at Craft Farms Golf Resort is very playable from the forward tees and a true championship challenge of over 7,000 yards from the tips. True to its Arnold Palmer design, this traditional 18-hole masterpiece was laid out to challenge rather than intimidate, with numerous risk/reward opportunities throughout. Golf Digest has consistently rated Cotton Creek as one of the Best Places to Play.
Head Coach Bruce Cunningham's crew will be paired with Cincinnati and South Alabama on the first day.
