GULF SHORES, Ala. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University women's golf team wrapped up the Bama Beach Bash today, March 21, on the Gulf Shores Golf Club's par-72, 6,002-yard layout. The team finished the event with its best round of the weekend and the squad's third-best round of the spring to take 13th-place with a 962 (324-322-316).
Sophomore Olivia Loberg (Bend, Ore.-Summit) closed the weekend with her third round of par-or-better this season, as she notched a final round 72 to tie for 30th. The Bend, Ore. native shot a 232 (78-82-72) for her seventh career top-30 finish in eight all-time events.
Senior Maria Connelly (Waterville, Ohio- Anthony Wayne) added a 244 (84-78-82) for a tie for 65th. Freshman Anna Watson (Ashland, Ohio-Ashland) finished in 74th with a 246 (78-85-83), while classmates Paige Zolciak (Perrysburg, Ohio-St. Ursula Academy) and Sophia Wygonik (Westland, Mich.-Livonia Franklin) added a 247 (87-77-83) and a 248 (84-85-79), respectively.
The big story of the round was that Wygonik made her first career hole-in-one on No. 15 with a 9-iron from 116 yards.
Playing as an individual, freshman Tatyana Nyambane (Nairobi, Kenya-Nord Anglia International School Dubai) wrapped up the tournament with a 253 (84-83-86).
South Alabama took home the team title with a 891 (303-291-297), as South Dakota State's Teresa Toscano claimed medalist honors with a three-under 213 (73-69-71).
Eastern jumps back into action at the John Kirk Panther Invitational, March 29-30, in Stockbridge, Ga.
