YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University women's basketball program has announced a special breast cancer awareness game in support of the 'Play4Kay' campaign. The promotion will coincide with the Eagles Mid-American Conference match up with Western Michigan University, Feb. 24, at 7 p.m.

Although numerous in-venue events, such as a silent auction, would normally take place during the game, this year's celebration will be done virtually, as general admission attendance is not open for Eastern Michigan home games.

Instead, fans can look forward to social media posts between today, Feb. 17, and the conclusion of the game that feature player insights into who or what they "fight for," as it pertains to breast cancer awareness. Additionally, the EMU women's basketball program is asking you at home to participate as well. Simply comment on the posts with who or what you fight for, and you could be featured on EMU's social media pages throughout the next week!

The annual Play4Kay initiative provides coaches and student-athletes around the country the opportunity to "come together as one" to raise awareness for breast cancer research on the court, in their communities, and beyond.

Throughout the month of February, high schools and colleges across the nation will take part in such games to support the Kay Yow Cancer Fund's mission of supporting scientific research focused on women's cancers, as well as projects assisting the undeserved community.

In her 34-year tenure at North Carolina State University, the late Kay Yow became the first coach to win two Olympic gold medals, guided her teams to 20 NCAA Tournaments and was inducted into 11 Halls of Fame. However, Coach Yow's legacy in the community extends far beyond the basketball court. Yow founded the Kay Yow Cancer Fund in 2007 before passing away in 2009 after her 22-year battle with breast cancer.

Coach Yow's passion and leadership served as the catalyst for Play4Kay, the KYCF's flagship fundraising initiative. Since its inception, the Play4Kay program has raised millions of dollars to support women's cancer research.

In addition to sending in who or what you fight for, EMU is also encouraging fans to wear pink on Wednesday, Feb. 24, when they tune in to watch or listen to the game on ESPN+ or WEMU 89.1 FM. Fans who are able to wear pink are encouraged to post a "selfie," to social media, tag @EMUWBB, and use the hashtag #Play4Kay.

Fans who participate will have their posts retweeted/shared by the team!

Additionally, if fans feel compelled to make a financial contribution the the Kay Yow Cancer Fund, they are encouraged to do so by visiting Eastern's team donation page through the official Kay Yow Website, at support.kayyow.com/emuwbb.
