Bryant and Knue Have Stellar Performances; Eagles Fall 34-26 to Ohio

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) -- The Eastern Michigan University football team dropped its Tuesday night affair with Ohio University, today, Nov. 9, at "The Factory" inside Rynearson Stadium.
The result drops the Eagles' overall record to 6-4 and 3-3 in Mid-American Conference play.
Senior quarterback Ben Bryant (La Grange, Ill.-Lyons Township (Cincinnati)) racked up 354 yards through the air as he completed 41-of-57 passes. Sophomore Samson Evans (Crystal Lake, Ill.-Prairie Ridge) paced the Eagles' rushing attack by accumulating 62 yards and two touchdowns on the ground, averaging 7.8 yards per carry. Senior Jawon Hamilton (Miami, Fla.-South Dade (James Madison)) also added 24 yards on the ground, averaging 4.8 yards per carry.
Sophomore Tanner Knue (Mason, Ohio-Mason) 127-yard performance led the Eastern Michigan receiving corps. Junior Hassan Beydoun (Dearborn, Mich.-Dearborn) also hauled in nine passes for 85 yards while Dylan Drummond (Cleveland, Ohio-Cuyahoga Heights) chipped in with nine grabs for 73 yards and one touchdown as well.
On the defensive end, senior linebacker Terry Myrick (Austell, Ga.-Woodward Academy) led the charge with 12 total tackles (two solo, 10 assisted).
The Eastern Michigan offense did a good job extending drives, converting on 50 percent of third-down attempts. The Eagles also went 3-for-4 on fourth down.
Eastern Michigan responded to a 7-0 lead from Ohio with a score to tie it up at 7-7 with 7:44 left in the first quarter. The Bobcats then scored to take a 17-7 lead before the Eagles put a field goal on the board to narrow the advantage and make it a 17-10 game.
OU scored to increase their lead to 20-10 before Eastern Michigan answered with a Chad Ryland (Lebanon, Pa.-Cedar Crest) 55-yard field goal to narrow the gap to 20-13 as time expired in the first half. The Eagles proceeded to get on the scoreboard again and tie it up at 20-20.
Ohio then fought back to take a 34-20 lead before Eastern Michigan cut the lead to 34-26 with a touchdown of their own with 2:36 left in the fourth quarter but could not regain possession on a failed onside kick attempt.

» Ohio out-gained Eastern Michigan 495-452 in the contest.
» The Eagles had two players with more than eight tackles in the ballgame led by Myrick, who had 12.
» Eastern Michigan was 3-for-4 on fourth down, converting on 75 percent of attempts.
» EMU won the time of possession battle 31:59-to-28:01.
» Bryant completed 71.9% of his passes on the night, going 41-for-57 while averaging 6.2 yards per attempt.
» Bryant tied a season-best 354 yards through the air, matching last week's effort at Toledo, Nov. 2.
» The La Grange, Ill. native also threw for over 300 yards for the fourth time this season (338 at NIU, 331 vs. BSU, 354 at Toledo).
» Evans had his longest rush of the season midway through the first quarter with a 37-yard carry, and he followed that with a 1-yard touchdown run on the same possession.
» Ryland converted two field goals on Tuesday night, one from 55 yards out and another from 25 yards out.
» With the two makes, Ryland has now hit 10 straight field goal attempts dating back to Oct. 2, when the kicker made two of three at Northern Illinois.
» Ryland's kick was the junior's career-best and season-long, along with his first conversion of 50-plus yards since the Lebanon, Pa. native made a 52-yard field goal versus Ball State, Nov. 11, 2020.
» Drummond hauled in his sixth touchdown catch of the season and the 11th of his career.
» Knue tabbed career-highs in receptions (11) and receiving yards (127), besting his previous high of eight receptions for 121 yards at Ball State, Nov. 11, 2020.
» Myrick recorded a season-high 12 tackles, besting his previous season-high of nine which he racked up on two different occasions (at NIU, Oct. 2 and at Toledo, Nov. 2).
» Ryland's 55-yard field goal conversion tied an Eastern Michigan program record, tying with former Eagle Dylan Mulder who hit a 55-yarder at Miami, on Nov. 7, 2015.
» Bryant's 41 completions on Tuesday night was the second-most completions in Rynearson Stadium History for an EMU player.
» The quarterback also finished second in Rynearson Stadium history in pass attempts (57), passing former Eastern quarterback Walter Church (vs. Northern Iowa, Sept. 3, 1998).
» The contest was the 32nd meeting between the Eagles and the Bobcats.
» The #MACtion game on Tuesday night was only the second time EMU has played a home game at 8 p.m. The other such occurrence was against Northern Illinois, Nov. 16, 2016.
