Smith Leads EMU On First Day of Mountaineer Invitational

BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. (EMUEagles.com) – Eastern Michigan University sophomore MJ Smith (Rockford, Ill.-Winnebago) shot a one-over par Monday, Oct. 4, during the first day of the Mountaineer Invitational at Pete Dye Golf Club. Smith enters Tuesday's final round in 13th-place, just two shots outside the top-five spots. Smith shot a 145 (72-73), as Penn State's Patrick Sheehan leads the way with a six-under 138.
Round two was halted due to darkness with one group needing to play No. 13. Those four golfers (two from Drexel and two from Xavier) will tee off at 8 a.m. Tuesday to complete round two. Round three will begin at approximately 8:30 a.m.
Eastern Michigan is tied for sixth after the second round in the team scoring at 598 (303-295). No. 8 NC State leads the team scoring at six-under-par, followed by Penn State at four-under-par in the 12-team field.
