The First Novice Eight posted a second-place finish with a 13:09.4 clip while Michigan State's top novice squad crossed the finish line in 12:54.9. Eastern Michigan's Third Novice Eight and Second Novice Eight recorded times of 15:14.7 and 15:34.7, respectively.
