Volleyball Drops Heartbreaker to Central Michigan

Raeven Chase led the Eagles with a career-high 19 kills
The loss drops the Eagles to 8-12 overall and 3-6 in Mid-American Conference play.
Redshirt sophomore Raeven Chase (Toronto, Ontario-Michael Power St. Joseph Power) led the Eastern Michigan attack with a career-high 19 kills and seven blocks. Two other Eagles also reached double-figures in redshirt freshman Krista Blakely (Detroit, Mich.-University High School Academy) and sophomore Samantha Basham (Granville, Ohio-Newark Catholic) with 15 and 10 kills, respectively. Defensively, sophomore Kamryn Stilwell (Parma, Ohio-Padua Franciscan) led the Green and White with 25 digs.

» Eastern Michigan's offense was directed by sophomore Jayden Otto (Crystal Lake, Ill.-Praire Ridge) tallying 44 assists for the match, four off her season-best of 48 versus Montana, Aug. 28.
» Basham registered her fourth-career double-double, with 10 kills and 11 digs.
» Three Eagles registered double-figure kills in Chase (19), Blakely (15), and Basham (10).
» Four Eagles tallied 10-or-more digs in Stilwell (25), freshman Bella Hommes (Grand Rapids, Mich.-Forest Hills Northern), Basham (11), and Otto (10)

» Chase recorded a career-high 19 kills, breaking her previous career-high of 15 at Ohio, Oct. 5, 2019.

Historical Notes
» Chase is now 10th in EMU school history with 54 career solo blocks. She passed Sharon Dunovsky (1986-89), who recorded 50 during her four years donning the Green and White. The middle blocker is now just two solo blocks away from eighth all-time. Lisa Henderson (1985) and Bonnie Covey (1982-85) currently sit tied for eighth with 55.
» Wednesday's match was the 92nd match between EMU and CMU.
How It Happened
SET 1 | The Eagles fell behind early, losing a tough first set 25-18. Eastern Michigan trailed by as many as eight points as Central Michigan grabbed the advantage for good at 9-8 in a set that was tied upfour times before the Chippewas took control.
SET 2 | Eastern Michigan responded to pick up a 25-20 victory in set two, evening the match at one set apiece. The Eagles were down by eight, (12-5), before turning it around when the Green and White took the lead at 18-17.
SET 3 | Eastern Michigan dropped the third set, 25-19. EMU fell behind early as the Chippewas led from the beginning of the match.
SET 4 | Eastern Michigan finished the fourth set with a 25-19 victory, tying the match at two apiece. The Eagles grabbed control at the 5-4 mark which was highlighted by nine kills from Chase.
SET 5 | The Green and White fell 15-7, dropping the match 3-2. The Maroon and Gold started the fifth set strong and led by seven points at one point.
