EMU placed third-or-higher in all races in 2019

EAST LANSING, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University rowing team will participate in the Head of the Grand Saturday, Oct. 16, in East Lansing, Mich. The races will take place on the Grand River at 8 a.m. and are hosted by Michigan State University.

The Eagles haven't raced at the Head of the Grand since the 2019 season, where the Green and White placed third-or-better in all races. Additionally, Eastern claimed the top spots in the Varsity Four and Second Varsity Four races at the Head of the Grand, while also defeating Michigan State for the program's first win over a Big Ten opponent since 2008.

EMU has close ties with Michigan State as assistant coaches Nicole Marek and Annie Cantu were standout student-athletes on the Spartans' rowing team. Marek was an All-Big Ten selection and CRCA All-American honorable mention during her time with the Spartans. Her 6k and 2k times rank in the program's all-time top-10 records. Cantu rowed on the First Varsity Eight team her last three seasons. The Plano, Texas native earned academic honors at the Spartan Excellence Gala in 2018.

The Green and White will begin the day with the Varsity Four races at 9:30 a.m. and the Novice Four at 10:30 a.m.
EMU will race at 11:30 a.m. in the Varsity Eight and in the Novice Eight at 12:30 p.m.
