Eagles Unable to Hold Off Golden Flashes In 194.875-194.050 Loss

Caitlin Satler ties career-high 9.900 on beam

KENT, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University gymnastics team fell to Kent State University in the final rotation, 194.800-194.050, Sunday, Jan. 31, in Mid-American Conference action inside the Memorial Athletic and Convocation Center. The Eagles held a small lead after the third rotation, but were unable to hang on, despite junior Caitlin Satler (Orland Park, Ill.-Carl Sandberg) tying her career-high on beam of 9.900 in the final rotation.
Eastern Michigan started the day on bars, led by senior Cortney Bezold (Maineville, Ohio-Bishop Fenwick) tying for second with a score of 9.825. Senior Jada Rondeau (Savage, Minn.-Central) and sophomore Molly Parris (Hudson, Ohio-Hudson) claimed the fourth and fifth spot, earning 9.800 and 9.750, respectively. Rounding out the scoring five was sophomore Hadyn Crossen (Carmel, Ind.-Carmel) and freshman Raisa Boris (Brookyln Park, Minn.-Park Center) adding scores of 9.675 and 9.550, respectively. The Green and White trailed after the first rotation, 48.600-48.900.
Coming up huge for the team on vault, junior Carly Kosanovich (Moon Twp., Pa.-Moon Area) scored a career-high 9.800 on the apparatus, giving her third place. Parris tied for fourth, hitting 9.775. Senior Cali Harden (Saline, Mich.-Saline) and junior Kara Roberts (Pinckney, Mich.-Pinckney) tied for seventh, each scoring 9.750. Crossen rounded out the top-five, earning 9.625. EMU was able to turn the tides and take a slight lead over the Golden Flashes after two, 97.300-97.150.
The competition grew closer during the third rotation, with the Eagles coming out on top, 148.850-148.800 over KSU. On floor, Roberts and Satler topped the lineup, earning 9.825's which tied for fourth. Boris hit a career-high in the event, scoring 9.750 and tying for sixth. Kosanovich chipped in a score 9.700, and junior Shannon Gregory (Edison, N.J.-John P. Stevens) earned a score of 9.450.
The Eagles saw Satler in full display again on beam, tying her career-high of 9.900, and ultimately tied for first. Crossen earned a podium finish with her first beam routine of the season, scoring 9.800. Parris followed her classmate, earning 9.725, and Brianna Price (Kings Mountain, N.C.-Homeschool) scored 9.600. The Green and White gave way to Kent State, falling 194.800-194.050.
Eastern Michigan returns to action as they play host to Western Michigan, Ball State, and Kent State in the Eagle Invitational Saturday, Feb. 6. The action will take place inside the Convocation Center at 4 p.m.
