Five Eagles Named Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholars

Sudinsky earned the honor for the second consecutive season, while four Eagles collected it for the first time
NORMAN, Okla. (EMUEagles.com) — Five members of the Eastern Michigan University men's golf team were named Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholars, the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) announced Wednesday, July 22. Earning the honor for the Eagles were senior Zach Sudinsky (McKinney, Texas-Boyd-Stephen F. Austin), juniors Ty Celone (Long Sault, Ontario, Canada-St Joseph's Catholic), Cougar Collins (Caledon, Ontario, Canada-Mayfield Secondary), and Tyler Rayman (Otsego, Mich.-Otsego), and redshirt sophomore Zack Mason (Toronto, Ontario, Canada-Blyth Academy Lawrence Park).
An additional 404 student-athletes were recognized with the award in the second nomination period, with a total of 1,018 players earning the award. Of the 404 honorees in the second wave, 194 players were Division I selections, 87 in Division II, 81 in Division III, 27 from NAIA, and 11 from NJCAA. 2020 marks the first year in which sophomores are eligible for the award.
To be eligible for Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar status an individual must be a sophomore, junior or senior academically in Division I, II, III, and NAIA, or receiving their Associate's Degree and in their last year of athletic eligibility in the NJCAA. In addition, they must have a stroke-average under 76.0 in Division I, 78.0 in Division II, 78.0 in NAIA and 79.0 in Division III, 77.0 in NJCAA, and maintain a minimum cumulative career grade-point average of 3.2. For 2019-20 only, they must have participated in 40 percent of the team's competitive rounds.
Celone, who is on pace for the lowest career scoring average in school history at 72.96, has played in 69 all-time rounds with 32 rounds of par-or-better. In 2019-20, he recorded 18 rounds with an average of 72.94. Celone finished in the top-15 in four of the six fall tournaments, including finishing ninth at the Joe Feaganes Marshall Invitational with a six-under 207 (68-68-71=207). He also added a tie for 10th at the Firestone Invitational with a one-under 215 (76-72-67) and added a 12th-place showing at the Loyola Intercollegiate with a 212 (71-71-70).
Collins, who has played in 75 career rounds with an average of 73.72, is on pace for the fifth-lowest career average in program history. Last year, he played in six events with an average of 72.94, the 12th-best in a single-season at EMU. In 2019-20, Collins had six rounds of par-or-better, including a season-low seven-under 65 at the Little Rock/First Tee Classic. The 65 was tied for the eighth-lowest round in program history and the best since Tyler Lewis carded a 64 at the Loyola Intercollegiate, Feb. 26, 2018. Additionally, he tied for ninth at the Colleton River Collegiate with a two-under 214 (68-76-70) and finished tied for 12th at the Joe Feaganes Marshall Invitational with a 208 (73-67-68).
Mason played in six tournaments last year, recording an average of 74.06 stokes per round. He was named the Mid-American Conference Golfer of the Week on Sept. 12 after an eight-under finish at the Joe Feaganes Marshall Invitational. Mason closed with a final round 68 for a two-day tally of eight-under 205 (70-67-68), the three round total is the third-best in program history. Additionally, he collected his second top-10 showing of the fall with a 10th-place showing at the Little Rock/First Tee Classic with a 54-hole total of 217.
Rayman played in three tournaments in 2019-20 after missing time due to injury. He notched an average of 74.11 in nine rounds. Overall, Rayman posted a 215 (71-70-74) at the Joe Feaganes Marshall Invitational, and added a 223 (77-71-75) at the Loyola Intercollegiate and a 229 (73-79-77) at the Colleton River Collegiate.
The lone senior on the squad, Sudinsky played in six events in 2019-20, recording an average of 74.50. At the Loyola Intercollegiate, had both the lowest 18 (66) and 54 (210) hole scores of his career with a tie for sixth. He finished with a 232 (81-77-74) at the Health Plan Mountaineer Invitational, and notched a 214 (69-74-71) at the Joe Feaganes Marshall Invitational.
