KANSAS CITY, Mo. (EMUEagles.com) -- Former offensive lineman Andrew Wylie heads into the season with a Super Bowl ring and a new contract.

Midland's Wylie, a left guard for the Kansas City Chiefs, signed a deal in the offseason.

He didn't play in the 31-20 Super Bowl win Feb. 2 over San Francisco at Miami Gardens, Fla.

Counting that game (he was a healthy scratch), he missed the final five contests overall, nagged by a high ankle sprain. Stefen Wisniewski, with seven years more experience, including being on a Super Bowl winner at Philadelphia in 2017, took Wylie's place as the starter.

But Wisniewski has moved on to Pittsburgh. The Chiefs signed veteran guard Mike Remmers in free agency. Whether Wylie wins the starting job back is to be decided in training camp.

Creighton's stance
Coach Chris Creighton provides a scouting report on Wylie: "Great teammate, totally committed to being his best. Team captain. Able to play all positions on the OL. Incredibly hard-working. Very coachable. Freak athletically. At his Pro Day he measured 6-foot-5 (and) a few pounds over 300 ...  and his vertical jump was in the mid-30's. Crazy."

Creighton: EMU develops pros
Eastern's athletics website, EMUEagles.com, asked him ... "You look at Andrew Wylie winning a Super Bowl title. You look at Maxx Crosby (who) finished as the runner-up for defensive rookie of the year. What does it say about this program's ability to develop guys that may have been overlooked and send them to the next level and become pretty darn successful?"

Creighton's reply: "I think Eastern Michigan's got a history of that. When you start looking at the numbers of guys who've gone to the NFL or to the other professional leagues from Eastern Michigan, it's a pretty long list. I don't know that we're doing anything differently other than trying to recruit great people who are talented, fit this place, fit who we are. But it is fun."
