The Orland Park, Ill. native is the third gymnast to earn the honor in program history

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — Eastern Michigan University gymnastics student-athlete Emili Dobronics (Orland Park, Ill.-Carl Sandburg) was named to the 2020  Academic All-District® Women's At-Large Team the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced Thursday, May 21.

The award recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. To be eligible for Academic All-District® consideration, a student-athlete must maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 and have reached sophomore standing.

A first-time winner of the award, Dobronics is just the third EMU gymnast to earn the accolade, joining Kendall Valentin (2018) and Cortney Bezold (2019). Additionally, Dobronics is one of two gymnasts in the Mid-American Conference to be tabbed with the honor, and one of only four MAC student-athletes to be honored in CoSIDA's District 5.

Dobronics, having competed in 46 meets for Eastern, earned 50 podium finishes, including 19 first-place finishes. The senior was a 2017 MAC Champion, a three-time NCAA Regional qualifier (two individual, one team), three time Academic All-MAC honoree, a two time All-MAC Second Team recipient, a 2018 Distinguished Scholar Athlete, and became the Green and White's first MAC Floor Champion in 17 years in 2019.

The Orland Park, Ill. native scored 9.800-or-better 46 times, including earning 9.900 five times on floor. Closing out her career, Dobronics will be remembered not only for her scores and dedication to the program, but for her leadership and passion.

Dobronics, who graduated with a degree in pre-dentistry, hit 9.800-or-better 12 times in 2020.  She competed in all nine meets, tying her career-high on 9.900 on bars at Air Force, Feb. 29. The Orland Park, Ill. native also hit a personal-best on vault this year, earning 9.800 against Western Michigan, Jan. 24.

Honorees selected first-team Academic All-District® will advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® ballot. Academic All-America® honorees will be announced from June 16-19.
