Men's Track and Field Leads League with 13 Academic All-MAC Honorees

CLEVELAND, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) – The Mid-American Conference announced that 13 student-athletes from the Eastern Michigan University men's track and field program were named to the Academic All-MAC Team today, April 2.
The Academic All-MAC honor is for a student-athlete who has excelled in athletics and academics. To qualify, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for that particular sport.
The Green and White leads the conference with 13 student-athletes receiving Academic All-MAC honors. From there, Central Michigan follows with 11 honorees, while Akron, Buffalo, and Kent State each have 10 student-athletes on the 2020 squad.
Additionally, redshirt freshman Chris Devaney (New Plymouth, New Zealand-New Plymouth) boasts the conference's best GPA with a mark of 3.97. Devaney, who finished third in the 5,000-meter run at the 2020 MAC Indoor Championships with a time of 14:28:12, intends to major in economics.
Along with Devaney, the Eagles named to the Academic All-MAC Team were: senior Sean Beckom II (Saginaw, Mich.-Heritage); juniors Solomon Costa (Gahanna, Ohio-Gahanna Lincoln), Owen Day (Ottawa, Ontario-International School of Dusseldorf), Derek Jones (Erie, Pa.-Cathedral Preparatory), and Owen Richardson (Basingstoke, England-The Costello School); sophomores Joe Ingram (Cincinnati, Ohio-Anderson), Baldvin Magnusson (Akureyri, Iceland-Hull University), Payne Wylie (Saskatchewan, Canada-Colonsay School), and Charlie Young (Grand Haven, Mich.-Grand Haven); and redshirt freshmen Ronald Brandal (Huron, Ohio-Huron), Andy Payne (Worthington, Ohio-Thomas Worthington), and Eddie Zuercher (Rocky River, Ohio-Rocky River).
