Gymnastics Lands Nine on Academic All-MAC Team

The Eagles see nine gymnasts honored for second consecutive season

CLEVELAND, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University gymnastics team had nine student-athletes earn a spot on the Mid-American Conference All-Academic Team for 2020 season, the league office announced Wednesday, April 15.

The Academic All-MAC honor is for a student-athlete who has excelled in athletics and academics. To qualify, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for that particular sport.

Receiving the honor for the Green and White are: junior Cortney Bezold (Maineville,Ohio-Bishop Fenwick), senior Emili Dobronics (Orland Park, Ill-Carl Sandburg), sophomore Shannon Gregory (Edison, N.J.-John P. Stevens), junior Cali Harden (Saline, Mich.-Saline), sophomore Carly Kosanovich (Moon Twp.,Pa.-Moon Area), junior Brianna Price (Kings Mountain, N.C.-Homeschool), sophomore Charlotte Reynolds (Leominster, Mass.-Leominster), junior Jada Rondeau (Savage, Minn.-Central), and sophomore Caitlin Satler (Orland Park, Ill.-Carl Sandburg).

Bezold holds a 3.99 grade point average as a nursing major, and competed in all nine meets for the Eagles. The junior tied her career-high of 9.900 on bars at Lindenwood, Feb. 2, cementing MAC Specialist of the Week honors for the third time in her career, and first of the 2020 season. The specialist hit 9.825-or-higher five times in 2020. This is her second time earning the academic honor.

Closing out her collegiate career, co-captain Dobronics is now a three-time recipient of the Academic All-MAC honor, holding a 3.68 GPA as a pre-dentistry major. The senior hit 8.25-or-better nine times this season, while competing in all nine meets, including tying her career-high on 9.900 on bars at Air Force, Feb. 29. The Orland Park, Ill. native also hit a personal-best on vault this year, earning 9.800 against Western Michigan, Jan. 24.

Gregory appeared in eight meets for the Green and White as a staple in the beam lineup this season. The sophomore has a 3.81 GPA  and is tudying exercise science. She earned a season-high 9.825 on beam. This is the first time receiving the honor for the Edison, N.J. native.

Harden, named a co-captain this year along with Dobronics, competed in all nine meets for EMU, appearing on vault and bars. The junior hit a career-high 9.800 on vault at Ball State, Feb. 16. The Saline, Mich. native hit 9.750-or-better six times this year while holding a 3.85 GPA in Elementary education and early childhood development. This is the second Academic All-MAC honor for the co-captain.

There was no sophomore slump for Kosanovich. In her second season, the sophomore competed on vault in all nine of Eastern's meets, while maintaining a perfect 4.00 gpa. Leading off the vault lineup all season, the Moon Twp., Pa. native earned two personal-bests, the first coming on vault, hitting 9.700 at Ball State, Feb. 16. The second came on floor at Air Force, Feb. 19, where she earned 9.750 in her first time competing the routine in the 2020 season. This is Kosanovich's first time earning the league's academic honor.

Price competed in eight meets for Eastern Michigan during the 2020 season, competing on beam and floor, while holding a 3.94 GPA in Finance and Management. The junior hit career-highs on both, earning a 9.800 on floor at Lindenwood, Feb. 2, then hitting a 9.875 against Northern Illinois, Feb. 7. This is her second time receiving the honor.

As a sophomore, Reynolds competed in five meets for the Eagles, while maintaining a 3.68 GPA. The Leominster, Mass. native earned a career-high of 9.675 on bars at the Georgia Triangular, Feb. 14. This is the first league honor for the sophomore.

As reliable as they come, Rondeau competed in all nine of EMU's meets this season, eight of which she competed in the all-around competition, and held a 3.76 GPA in Communications. The junior earned two personal-bests this season, first hitting 9.875 on beam against NIU, Feb. 7, then scoring a 9.850 on bars at BSU, Feb. 16. The Savage, Minn. native scored 9.850-or-better 16 times during the 2020 campaign. This is the second time Rondeau has been an Academic All-MAC honoree.

Last, but certainly not least, Satler stepping it up in her sophomore year, while earning 3.89 GPA in Exercise science.. The sophomore competed in all nine meets for the Green and White, earning a personal-best of 9.900 on beam against the Huskies of NIU, Feb. 7. Between beam and floor, the Orland Park, Ill. native hit 9.800-or-better 11 times and receives the academic honor for the first time.
