Men's Track and Field Travels West for GVSU Big Meet

The Eagles get ready for their penultimate regular season meet
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University men's track and field team heads to Allendale, Mich. to compete at the GVSU Big Meet Friday, Feb. 14 inside the Kelly Family Sports Center. The meet serves as the Eagles' final test before the Mid-American Conference Indoor Championships in Akron Ohio, Feb. 28-29.
Eastern resumes its indoor slate after taking part in the Meyo Invitational hosted by the University of Notre Dame, Feb. 7-8. Redshirt junior Baboucar Sallah-Mohammed (Arlington, Va.-Fishburne Military) captured the Eagles' lone individual title of the weekend as he captured the triple jump crown with a personal-best mark of 15.92 meters. He has claimed first prize in the triple jump at each of the four meets in which he has competed in that event. Sallah-Mohammed also placed fourth in the long jump with a leap at 7.46 meters. Additionally, junior Skyler Lester (Marietta, Ga.-Marietta) also earned a podium place, as he finished in a tie for third place in the high jump with a leap of 2.06 meters.
In the running events, sophomore harrier Baldvin Magnusson (Akureyri, Iceland-Hull University) was named MAC Men's Track Athlete of the Week after finishing the Ryan Shay 3K in second place with a personal-best time of 8:03.28. Junior Owen Richardson (Basingstoke, England-The Costello School) also shined for EMU, as he represented the program in the 200-meter dash and ranked third with a time of 21.42 seconds.
The Eagles won a pair of events at last season's GVSU Big Meet, Feb. 8, 2019. Current senior Carlos Sanchez Juan (Onil, Spain-Ies La Creueta) earned the long jump event title, clearing 7.12m, while former Eagle Terrell Posada was first in the 60-meter dash as he tied his personal-best time of 6.80 seconds. Posada also added a personal-best 200m performance, earning a fourth-place finish with a time of 21.66. From there, redshirt senior Zach Harkey (Huron, Ohio-Huron) set a then-career-high with a weight throw of 20.14m, which was good for fourth overall. In total, EMU recorded 12 top-five finishes and 11 personal-best performances.
Running events are expected to begin at 10 a.m., while field events will get underway at 12 p.m.
