Eagles Gear Up for Season Opener at Bowling Green

The Falcon Invitational will take place Saturday, November 7 at 2 p.m.
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University cross country teams will open up its 2020 slates with a trip to the Falcon Invitational. The meet is hosted by Mid-American Conference foe Bowling Green State University on Saturday, Nov. 7 at 2 p.m. The event will begin with the women's 6k, followed shortly after by the men's 8k.
The last time the men's team participated in the Falcon Invitational was over a decade ago in Oct. 2009. The Eagles placed fourth with 124 points on the day Andrew Pfeiffer led the way for EMU, finishing the 8k course in 25:07.2 for eighth place. Harriers Austin Hendrix and Josh Brent also earned top-25 finishes, placing 16th and 17th, respectively.
On the women's side, they too have not ran in the invitational since 2009. In its most recent appearance, the Green and White finished the morning 6k rounding out the top-10 with a team score of 288. Pacing the Eagles was harrier Megan Flewelling with a time of 23:28.4, followed closely behind by teammates Morgan Churchwell and Cassie Coffman.
For the Eagles, this will be the first cross country contest participated in since former-Eagle student Natalie Cizmas placed 88th at the NCAA Championships on Saturday, Nov. 23, 2019.
The invitational also starts a new chapter in Eastern Michigan cross country's storied history as Director and Head Coach Sue Parks will be at the helm of both programs. Prior to the 2020-21 academic year, the men's and women's teams operated under different coaching staffs.
