Tennis Falls at Michigan State

The Eagles were bested, 7-0, in their season-opening match
EAST LANSING, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University tennis team suffered a season-opening loss at the hands of Michigan State University today, Jan. 23. The Eagles were bested, 7-0, in their first on-court action of the 2020 spring season.
The four singles flights fought hard, but were ultimately all bested in straight sets. No. 1 singles player, senior Marie Mayerova (Kremlin, Czech Republic) took multiple games off of her Spartan counterpart, but fell 6-3, 6-2. Freshman Isabelle Popma (Staphorst, Netherlands-Center for Sports and Education) was also impressive in her collegiate debut, taking three games in each set of her match against MSU's No. 3 singles player.
In doubles action, the team's of Mayerova and sophomore Julia Piatek (Melgiew, Poland-Liceum Lublin) as well as Popma and Vasavi Ganesan (Tamil Nadu, India-Alagappa Matriculation School) both put on strong first-match performances. While both teams fell in their bouts, each was able to secure four games from the Spartans, falling 6-4 in both matches, respectively.
