Both Eagles won an individual title at last week's Wolverine Invitational
CLEVELAND, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) – Eastern Michigan University junior sprinter Owen Richardson (Basingstoke, England-The Costello School) and redshirt junior jumper Baboucar Sallah-Mohammed (Arlington, Va.-Fishburne Military) were named the Mid-American Conference Men's Track and Field Athletes of the Week, the league office announced today, Jan. 14. This marks the first weekly honor in Richardson's decorated collegiate career, and the first award for Sallah-Mohammed since joining the Eagles.
Richardson was one of two Eagles to earn an individual title at the Wolverine Invitational hosted by the University of Michigan, Jan. 11. He finished in first place in the 200-meter dash with a time of 21.53 seconds, out-running competitors from Buffalo, Grand Valley State, Miami (Fla.), and Michigan. Additionally, Richardson was a part of EMU's 'A' squad in the 4x400-meter relay that secured second place with a time of 3:18.55.
Sallah-Mohammed also shined for EMU at the same meet by earning a podium place in a pair of field events. After winning the long jump in his EMU debut at the SVSU Holiday Open, Dec. 6-7, 2019, Sallah-Mohammed claimed first prize in the triple jump as he set a MAC automatic qualifying mark of 15.59 meters, while ranking third in the long jump with a 7.24-meter leap. Sallah-Mohammed did not compete for the Eagles last season after transferring from NCAA Division III Bethany (W. Va.) College.
Eastern will go a week without competition before hosting the Can-Am International Saturday, Jan. 25 at Bob Parks Track inside Bowen Field House.
