NEW ORLEANS (EMUEagles.com) – The Manning Award, sponsored by the Allstate Sugar Bowl, has named eight quarterbacks as its "Stars of the Week," the bowl office announced today, Sept. 3. Among the honorees is Eastern Michigan University football quarterback Mike Glass III (St. Louis, Mo.-Hazelwood Central-Southwestern College). In addition to the Manning Award's yearly honor, each week during the regular season, eight quarterbacks are recognized as Manning Quarterbacks of the Week.
Joining glass are Hank Bachmeier (Boise State), Joe Burrow (LSU), Justin Fields (Ohio State), Anthony Gordon (Washington State), Jalen Hurts (Oklahoma), Spencer Sanders (Oklahoma State), and Tua Tagovailoa (Alabama).
Glass had a nearly perfect game, throwing 20-22 (90.9%) with three touchdowns in a 30-23 win over Coastal Carolina, Aug. 31. His completion percentage was an Eastern Michigan single-game record in the modern statistical era, topping Tyler Wiegers' 18-21 (85.7%) performance against Monmouth during the 2018 campaign
Glass, who currently ranks as No. 1 in the nation in completion percentage, started off his afternoon completing seven of his first eight passes, including a 11-yard pass to sophomore Dylan Drummond (Cleveland, Ohio-Cuyahoga Heights) for the Eagles' first score. Glass added touchdown passes of 19 yards and 32 yards, respectively, and rushed for a two-yard TD.
In all, Glass accounted for four Eagles touchdowns, throwing for 188 yards in the season-opener.
His near-perfect performance also marked the fifth-straight contest for Glass without an interception, dating back to September of the 2018 campaign. In that stretch, Glass has compiled a 70.9 completion percentage, and has thrown for seven touchdowns.
Eastern Michigan fans are encouraged to go to the Allstate Sugar Bowl Facebook page to vote for what they think was the best performance from this past weekend. Be sure to "like," the picture of Glass to register an official vote. When voting closes on Thursday at 11 a.m. CT, the top vote-getter will be announced as the Manning Award Quarterback of the Week.
