KALAMAZOO, Mich. & DEKALB, Ill. (EMUEagles.com) - The Eastern Michigan University volleyball team begins the Mid-American Conference portion of its schedule with a weekend trip westward that includes matches against in-state rival Western Michigan University, Sept 27, and Land of Lincoln foe Northern Illinois University, Sept 28.
EMU will take on Western Michigan Friday at 7 p.m., before facing NIU Saturday at 7 p.m. CT.
Fans can follow both matches using live stats, which are available through EMUEagles.com. The team's Twitter, @EMUVolleyball, will also provide in-match updates throughout both contests.

RETURN OF THE #MAC(TION): A member of the Mid-American Conference since 1971, 2019 marks the first time that the EMU Volleyball team enters conferece play as the league's defending champion. Last season, the Eagles finished with a 24-14 overall mark and made a magical run to the MAC Tournament crown, besting the No. 1, 2, 4, and 8 seeded-teams along the way.

ALL-TIME VS. WMU: Eastern will square-off with its in-state foe, the Western Michigan Broncos, for the 90th time Friday, Sept. 27.  A largely one-sided affair, WMU has emerged victorious in 65 of the all-time matchups.
Last season, the Eagles and Broncos split their season series, with each team claiming victory on their respective home courts.

ALL-TIME VS. NIU: A much closer all-time matchup, the Eagles and Huskies have played 59 times in their respective histories, with NIU winning on 33 occassions. The Eagles took both matchups during the 2018 season, besting Northern, 3-0, in Ypsilanti before upending the Huskies, 3-1, in DeKalb.

HAUT HEATING UP: Redshirt senior Cassie Haut led the Eagles with an outstanding 19-kill performance against No. 21 Purdue, Sept. 21. The Monroe, Mich. native set a new season-high in kills, and hit .351 in the match, adding six total blocks (one solo, five assist) in her effort.

BATTLED WITH THE BEST: Eastern took Purdue by surprise in the first set of its match, Sept 21, setting back the home team 25-21. The set loss was the first of the weekend for No. 21-ranked Purdue, and was just the second set it has dropped in Halloway Gymnasium this season. Although EMU started hot, it eventually dropped the match, 3-1.

SECOND SWEEP: Eastern (5-7) picked up its second sweep of the season, turning aside Texas A&M Corpus Christi (7-6), 25-23, 25-23, and 25-15, on Sept. 20. Junior Franki Strefling registered a double-double with 14 kills and 13 digs. Freshman Alayna Jansky chipped in a double-double of her own with 12 kills and 12 digs.

ON THE HORIZON: Eastern Michigan continues MAC play when it hosts Central Michigan University Thursday, Oct. 3, at 7 p.m. Following the matchup with the Chips, EMU welcomes MAC East rival Ohio to the Convocation Center, Oct. 5, at 5 p.m.
