Mabel Dunn sets new career-high in saves

DAYTON, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University soccer team couldn't overcome an early goal and fell to the University of Dayton, 1-0, Sept. 15 at Baujan Field.

Redshirt junior Mabel Dunn (Oakville, Ontario-White Oaks Secondary) posted a career-best nine saves in 90 minutes of play.

Junior defender Tessa Osborne (Mentor, Ohio-Lake Catholic) played every minute of the match for the sixth time this season while also getting a shot off for the Eagles. Junior Lindsey Shira (New Baltimore, Mich.-Anchor Bay) has recorded one shot in all seven games, becoming the only member of the Green and White to take at least one shot in each game this season.

The first half of the match saw both the deciding goal and the best chance for Eastern Michigan (1-4-2). 11 minutes in, Dayton (2-5-1) was able to draw Dunn out to the left side, cross the ball to the right side of the box, and score the game-winning goal.

The Eagles saw a chance for the equalizer in the 43rd minute when redshirt junior Sabrina McNeill (Whitby, Ontario-Henry Street) was awarded a penalty kick. However, her kick and the subsequent shots by senior Maggie McCullough (London, Ontario-Oakridge Secondary) and McNeill were saved by the Flyers' goalkeeper.

Eastern wasn't able to find the back of the net in the final 45 minutes, sealing the win for Dayton, 1-0.

Eastern Michigan wraps up non-conference play Sunday, Sept. 22 at Scicluna Field. Kickoff against Loyola Chicago is set for 1 p.m.
