YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — The sun shined bright and the energy ran high as the 2019 Eastern Michigan University football campaign officially began today, Aug. 2, when the Eagles held their first practice of the season.  The team, the 128th to don the Green and White, ran through drills and team exercises inside "The Factory," at Rynearson Stadium.

Head Coach Chris Creighton, in his sixth year at the helm, guided the team through the workout as they prepare for the 2019 season opener Saturday, Aug. 31, when Eastern heads to Conway, S.C. for a clash with Coastal Carolina University.

This practice was the first of the three-day acclimation period where the players can only wear helmets, before sporting shoulder pads on the fourth day, and finally full pads on the fifth day.

Throughout the session, Creighton reminded his team of the magnitude of importance that each practice leading up to the season opener carries, and encouraged the squad to use every drill, practice, and week throughout camp to improve as an individual player and teammate. The day began with various special teams drills and activities before each individual position group spent time working with their respective coaches. Various team-based activities concluded the days events.

After an evening walk-through session tonight, a portion of camp in-place for just the third year after the elimination of two-a-days in 2016, practice will resume tomorrow morning with another session on the "EMU Gray," Field Turf.
