Two Eagles Qualify for Quarterfinals at NCAA East Regionals

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (EMUEagles.com) - Four student-athletes from the Eastern Michigan University men's track and field team competed in the first day of the NCAA East Regional Championships hosted by University of North Florida Thursday, May 23. The day saw two Eagles qualify for Friday's quarterfinal heats on the track.

Senior Tyler Underwood (Clinton, Mich.-Clinton) and sophomore Owen Richardson (Basingstoke, England-The Costello School) continued their successes in the 400m, as both earned finished within the top-three runners of their respective heats, qualifying them for tomorrow's quarterfinal heats. Underwood finished second in his heat, running to a time of 46.44, while Richardson finished third in his heat, crossing the finish line in 47.01.

Senior Alex Jacobs (Dublin, Ohio-Dublin Jerome) marked the fifth-best vault in program history, clearing 5.11m to tie for 19th, falling just shy of qualifying for the NCAA Championships in Austin, Texas. His new career-best effort is .05m better than his previous top performance, and topped athletes from Michigan State University, University of Tennessee, and Mid-American Conference foe University of Akron.

Junior Terrell Posada (Naples, Fla.-Naples) registered with a 31st-place effort in the 100m, recording a time of 10.56.

With today's performances, Posada and Jacobs both end their 2019 outdoor campaigns. Richardson and Underwood run in the 400m quarterfinals Friday, May 24, beginning at 5:45 p.m.

Tomorrow's competitions at Hodges Stadium begin at 12 p.m. with the javelin throw.
