PENNSAUKEN, N.J. (EMUEagles.com) - The Eastern Michigan University women's rowing team matched its best finish in program history at the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Championships Sunday, May 19, on the Cooper River in Pennsauken, N.J. The Eagles totaled 19 points with a second-place effort in the Second Varsity Eight, a third-place mark in the First Varsity Eight, and a fourth-place performance in the Varsity Four race.

Northeastern University took home its sixth-consecutive CAA title with 26 points followed by Drexel University (24 points), EMU (19 points), Villanova University (15 points), and the University of Delaware (nine points).

"I was really happy with our performance today," noted Head Coach Kemp Savage. "It was such a huge difference from last year as the team was firmly in third place and still had a shot at winning the championship going into the First Varsity Eight race. This team has done a lot of work in the last eight months to get to a much more competitive place, and we will miss our seniors next year. We understand how close we are to winning the championship and are excited for the work it will take to get there."

The Eagles' best finish of the regatta came in the Second Varsity Eight race, where EMU finished as the runner-up with a time of 6:59.236. The time was less than two seconds behind first-place finisher Northeastern and bested its seeding by two places. The Green and White's First Varsity Eight squad took third with a time of 6:55.316, while Eastern's Varsity Four boat came home a fourth-place effort with a time of 8:13.702. The non-scoring Third Varsity Eight race saw the Eagles finish fifth with a time of 7:52.388.

Individually, EMU placed two rowers on the All-CAA team, once again tying the most honorees in program history. Junior Amanda Flora (Greenfield, Ind.-Greenfield Central) earned the honor for the third straight season, while senior Addison Oblanas (Seattle, Wash.-Seattle Academy) earned the honor for the second time in her career after being named to the team following the 2017 CAA Championships.
